Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to provide you with a holistic understanding of mindfulness and meditation, underpinned by the wisdom of both Buddhist and Hindu traditions. The program entails:

• Engaging Assignments: Dive into enriching assignments that comprise 35 hours of immersive Zoom training, serving as a bridge between in-person workshops

• In-Person Workshops: Embark on a journey of approximately 165 hours, spread across six weekends of in-person workshops. These weekends are carefully curated to provide a profound experiential understanding of the subject matter.

• Historical Meditation Insights: Gain insights into the key principles of historical meditation methods, spanning across Buddhist and Hindu traditions. This foundation will equip you with a deep understanding of the origins and nuances of these practices.

To Earn Your Certificate:

• Workshop Attendance: To earn your well-deserved certificate, attend a minimum of five out of the six workshops. While we highly recommend participating in all six workshops to maximize your learning, we understand the demands of life and offer flexibility.

• Hands-On Training: Immerse yourself in the practical aspect of teaching. During one or more sessions, you'll have the unique opportunity to facilitate a guided meditation class or similar activities, all while under the observant guidance of a seasoned monk.

This journey isn't just about acquiring knowledge; it's about embodying mindfulness and meditation, nurturing your teaching skills, and evolving into a beacon of wisdom within your community. Welcome to a transformative experience that's as enriching as it is enlightening.

Option 1 - Total Cost: $2700 ( $2500 if paid in full by December 31st 2023)

Fees will cover lodging and food (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) expenses, and guest teacher travel expenses. The meals will be Vegan. Please let us know if you have any additional food restrictions, and we will do our best to accommodate you. You may also provide your own meals if needed.

Training Schedule

Immerse yourself in a transformative journey at the serene Metta Meditation Retreat Center located in Janesville, MN. Our in-person retreats offer a profound opportunity to delve deep into the teachings of mindfulness and meditation. Each retreat spans a weekend, commencing at 6:00 pm on Friday and concluding at 3:00 pm on Sunday. Participants seeking an extended experience can opt to stay on Sunday night, with check-out scheduled before 10:00 am on Monday morning.

Feb 9-11: Overview and Historical Context Embark on your journey with an insightful overview of the program. This workshop delves into the roots of mindfulness, exploring its historical evolution and the diverse pathways it has taken in Eastern traditions. Our focus will be on "Understanding, Practicing, and Mastering Mindfulness Meditation."

Mar 15-17: The Student-Teacher Dynamic Learn the art of being both a dedicated student and an effective teacher. This retreat delves into various Buddhist teaching methodologies, drawing wisdom from several suttas to guide our exploration.

May 31-June 2: Journey towards Bodhisattva Discover the profound concept of the Bodhisattva, one who strives for enlightenment. We'll study Buddhist Sutras to gain a deeper understanding of the Buddhist way of life and cultivate the Bodhisattva mindset.

July19-21: Unveiling the Triple Gem Explore the significance of the Triple Gem – The Buddha, The Dhamma, and The Sangha. Delve into the wisdom and practices associated with each, enhancing your understanding and practice.

Oct 4-7: Forging a Mindful Community This retreat focuses on the creation and sustenance of a Mindful Community. Explore diverse approaches to community development and the guiding principles that foster its growth.

Dec 6-8: Insight Meditation and Cultivating the Mind Emerge as a lifelong teacher with a focus on mindfulness. Dive deep into Insight Meditation (Bhavana) and the cultivation of a cultivated mind.

Each retreat is a stepping stone on your path to becoming a skilled meditation and mindfulness teacher. These immersive experiences blend knowledge with practice, enriching your understanding and nurturing your ability to guide others on their own transformative journeys. Minimum 1-year weekly meditation or more than 3 residential retreats under a qualified teacher.

You will have to submit a recommendation letter from your teacher if you are not part of Triple Gem community. If you are unable to provide a letter, please email us about your situation.

Need to step away from the everyday for some quality “me-time”?

Women’s Retreats provide an excellent opportunity for women to take space for themselves in a supportive group environment.

This retreat is a perfect opportunity to develop or enhance mindful self-care tools, including yoga and meditation. Practice setting aside time for your wellbeing every day— you deserve it!

Retreat Format: In person

Fee: $420, which includes food and lodging. Additionally, there is a discounted rate of $370 for sponsors of the Triplegem. (Sponsors are individuals who generously contribute through monthly donations surpassing $100 or more.)

Our Facilitators:

Bhante Sathi: Sathi serves as the principal instructor at the Metta Meditation Center and is the visionary behind Triple Gem of the North, a non-profit committed to fostering Buddhist teachings, meditation, and mindful living. With over 35 years of experience, his workshops provide tangible pathways to inner tranquility. Grounded in Buddhist principles, Sathi's teachings bridge cultural divides, guiding many towards spiritual awakening.

Barb Traxler, RN, BSN: With over three decades of experience as a Registered Nurse, Barb's dedication to healthcare excellence is evident in her role at Mayo Clinic, Mankato. In addition to her clinical expertise, she enriches patient care through her certification as a mindfulness meditation teacher, fostering holistic wellness practices within her community. She regularly leads mindfulness sessions at the Metta Meditation Center and for the Triple Gem of the North.

Dharshini Goonetilleke, EdD, LPCC: She regularly leads mindfulness sessions at the Metta Meditation Center and for the Triple Gem of the North. She is a Counselor Educator, currently holds a faculty position at Metro State University's, actively instructing in the Cooccurring Disorders Recovery Counseling Master's program. She is also a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in MN.

Faye Nouraee: Faye, a highly skilled Advanced Practice Aesthetician with over 20 years of experience, is not just the owner but also the driving force behind Faye’s Facial Clinic in Eden Prairie. Specializing in result-oriented skincare, she passionately integrates natural and healthy alternatives into her practice, ensuring her clients achieve radiant and long-lasting results. Committed to excellence, Faye combines her expertise with personalized care, providing a rejuvenating experience that surpasses expectations.

Gina Gafford, MS: Gina has a diverse skill set, including certification as a massage therapist, Reiki mastery, and registration as a Yoga Teacher (RYT). Beyond her holistic healing practices, she is also a skillful author and photographer, bringing a creative flair to her work. With a Master’s of Arts in Holistic Health Studies, Gina's qualifications reflect a deep understanding of the interconnectedness between mind, body, and spirit, enriching her ability to promote overall well-being in her clients.

Jerilyn Veldof: Jerilyn discovered her passion for journaling at the tender age of 10, maintaining a daily writing streak for seven consecutive years, spanning her teens and early twenties. Alongside her roles as a librarian, instructional designer, facilitator, and author, she has embraced meditation, accumulating nearly 60 journals on her shelves over the years.

Tiffany Reinitz, AP, PharmD, RYT200: Tiffany's interest in complementary and alternative therapies lie primarily in Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, aromatherapy, Tibetan Medicine, energy healing and more. She is a board certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor, Ayurvedic Practitioner, and level 1 certified Kundalini yoga instructor. Additionally, she is a Reiki Master and holds a certificate in Complementary and Alternative therapies from the Center for Spirituality and Healing at the University of Minnesota. Tiffany is the owner of Om Shanti Wellness LLC.

Purvi Gada, MD: Dr. Gada, with board certifications in Hematology, Medical Oncology, and Internal Medicine, also holds a certification in Lifestyle Medicine, emphasizing a comprehensive approach to patient care. Serving the Twin Cities area since 2007, she brings extensive expertise as a general hematologist-oncologist at MN Oncology in the Chaska/Waconia region, dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized treatment for her patients.

Samantha Wendt: Samantha is a multifaceted wellness professional, holding certifications as a Certified Master Herbalist, Generational Restorative Health Mentor, and Facial Analysis Master. Additionally, she is a SHAPE ReClaimed Practitioner and a ZYTO Specialist, demonstrating her expertise in various holistic modalities. With her diverse skill set, Samantha is committed to empowering individuals on their wellness journeys, providing personalized guidance and support tailored to each person's unique needs.

Anna Anderhagen: Anna is an educator, content creator with over 25 years of experience in program development, teaching, and training. She brings enthusiasm and expertise to various domains, including K-12 curriculum development, theater, music, movement, therapeutic recreation, and Minnesota history. Anna is member of the Women’s Drum Center in St. Paul and of the performance group Drumheart. She facilitate drum circles for all ages.


If attending the retreat in person:

  • Location: Google Maps has been known to take our guests to the main house rather than the center. When you arrive, you’ll pull into a gravel road on the highway, simply keep driving until you see a large yellow building on your left-hand side next to a large white cross. That is where the Center is.
  • Accommodations: The registration fee is inclusive of a room and meals at the center. Rooms are dorm-style with shared bathrooms.
  • Clothing: Try to bring comfortable clothing as you will be spending a lot of time conducting various types of meditation and mindfulness practices. If you plan to participate in gardening activities, please bring mud shoes and clothes for gardening.
  • Toiletries: Try to avoid bringing heavily scented items and some individuals are sensitive to such products.
  • Food: We provide vegan meals. If you need to bring your own food for whatever reason, we encourage you to put your name on the food and place it in the fridge located on the main floor. We can show you where that is when you check in.
  • Towels and sheets: Please keep in mind that we do not provide linens for your stay as we only have a few extra. We recommend bringing a set of twin sheets and some towels. If you forget these items, we can help you out by letting you borrow some of our extras.
